Page 8 - Feast of Shavuot

This feast is known as Shavuot, or as the Feast of Weeks, because we celebrate it 7 weeks after the first Sunday of Passover.

This feast is also known as Khag ha-Katzir, ie, the feast of harvest of the firstfruits, because at this time the harvest ends and the offerings of flour from freshly harvested wheat were brought.

The Torah commands us to attend the (Holy) Assembly. All work is prohibited except the preparing of festive meals.

According to our Karaite teachers, the feast of Shavuot has to always be celebrated on a Sunday, (the day after Shabbat), as it commands as the Torah in the Third Book of Moses (3M 23), ie the following day after the seventh Shabbat.
